I have reached the point in my life that I don't know what to get friends and family any more as gifts. There are so many new gadgets out there now that I can barely keep up.

My son loves the outdoors but over the years I have given him almost every type of sporting goods equipment  and camping gear I can think of.

As an alternative I have taken to buying collectables gifts for special occasions. Birthdays, Christmas and anniversaries. I found they really appreciate them because most of the time they retain or even go up in value.

My latest collectables gift was a set of commemorative state coins. They mounted them on the wall in a great display case. Not only do they look good but they have also turned out to be a conversation piece as well.  

An added bonus is now my grandkids are learning all the states and their capitals. They practice and get little awards for memorizing them all. One of them even took it to school for show and tell. It made quite an impression on the other kids and the even the teacher was impressed.
